Lake Martin is the "Crown Jewel of the South". It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
According to Wikipedia:
Lake Martin is located in Tallapoosa County, Elmore County, and Coosa County in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is a 44,000 acre (178 km squared) lake with over 750 miles (1200 km) of wooded shoreline. Lake Martin was formed after the completion of Martin Dam on the Tallapoosa River...The dam was begun in 1923 and completed in 1926. After completion, the lake was the largest man-made lake in the world. One of the largest artificial lakes in the United States, Lake Martin is a popular recreation area for swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, camping, and golfing.
Lake Martin is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountians. As a result, probably the hardest thing for first-time visitors to understand is that you can't just drive around and see the lake. We're in a hilly, heavily wooded area. The only time you can really see Lake Martin is when you're driving across one of our three major bridges or parking in someone's driveway! But Lake Martin is vast and can really only be appreciated from the water. The water is clear, clean and deep - over 180 feet deep in some areas.
I wasn't born at Lake Martin, but I got here as quick as I could! Living at Lake Martin is wonderful and it's great to share the "Crown Jewel of the South" with others. This is a resort, second home, and retirement area. No one HAS to buy property at Lake Martin - they WANT to and my job is to help them find the cabin or the castle of their dreams! As a full time resident, I can provide detailed insight and information to my customers.
